There is never a wrong time to protect your Intellectual Property. It is however prudent that knowledge assets are protected early after they have been created and identified to avoid any sort of IP theft or losses arising from potentialinfringement by competitors. For a budding enterprise or any start-up, identification of its value proposition is key. It is therefore important, for new businesses, to protect the knowledge that enables the business to deliver this value to their customers. IP enables businesses to create their own brand identity for their products and services, enables them enter into new markets, helps them to remain competitive in very dynamic markets and increases value of the business making it attractive to prospective investors and many other benefits.
Innovent Labs in collaboration with Makerere Innovation and Incubation Centre through a program funded by AfriLabsprovided IP training to a group of 15 start-ups that are engaged in developing products aimed at mitigating the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. ILA will offer free Intellectual Property support to these start-ups up to the point of registration.
